You’ve decided to grow yourself a beard, but now you’re five days in and your neck and face are so itchy, you’re ready to claw it all off.
Why does this always happen to you? “I just want to grow a beard but I can never get past this phase” one might think.
What is happening is the skin under your beard is drying out. Your beard is also drying out because it’s not being hydrated.
This is about the time where most start giving up. The itch is unbearable, and nothing seems to help.
When I say your beard needs to be hydrated, I’m not talking about washing it. Washing your beard does NOT hydrate your beard. It’s counter intuitive. Washing your beard strips the natural oils in your beard, leaving you with a dry mess.
I’m not saying don’t wash your beard, you definitely want to wash your beard 1-3 times a week depending on how dirty it gets, but you’ll want to put in beard oil after you wash your beard to keep it healthy and hydrated.
This is where products come in!
I’m sorry if you thought growing a beard is going to save you money. Some of the things you might end up with are:
Beard combs, Beard brushes, Beard Oils, Beard balms, Beard Lotion, Beard Shampoo
You get the idea..
Several years before I started getting into beard products, a friend of mine passed on some sage advise on how to deal with the itchy beard, and I’m going to share that with you.
The product that was recommended to me was cetpahil, the bottle looks like this:
This moisturizer provides almost immediate relief. You only need to use it once or twice a day, and once you get to the 3 week mark you won’t need it anymore.
I only use it when I’m first growing out my beard because I feel it does an amazing job. Once my beard starts growing out I switch to all natural beard oils.
Beard oils can be purchased anywhere from $1 (yes, it’s out there) all the way up to $50.00 for an ounce.
One ounce might not seem like a lot, but truthfully you’ll only need a couple drops a few times a day, and one ounce should easily last you a month or longer.
Thebeardclub.com provides a very good medium grade oil for $1.00. It is subscription based, but you can defer your next order as far out as you want, or cancel your membership at any time. Be on the lookout for a full product review on this beard oil and many more in the near future.
