PBSCO Shave Oil Review

Last week I reviewed the midnight and two 4 in 1 shave cream. In that review I had mentioned that since religiously using that product, I’ve switched to something else for lining up my cheeks.

This is that something.

I asked my barber to recommend me something that glides on clear, so when I’m lining up my beard, I can be more precise when shaving to a specific line.

This product did the trick. The nice thing is it doubles as an after shave. On their website Prairie Boys Supply Company describes it as:

“Provides comfortable razor glide and reduces dry skin, razor burn and flare-ups. “

I only ever use about 2-3 drops of the oil every time I shave and it seems to be enough for my cheeks. At $30 a 30mL bottle should last you several months.

One thing I did find is in areas where my hair is incredibly thick, such as my neck line, my razor didn’t glide quite as smoothly, and it actually ended up irritating my skin.

For that reason I still use the midnight and two 4 in 1 when it comes to shaving my neck line. I still put the oil on my neck for the added glide, but it’s not enough as a standalone if you have thicker hair.

Let’s talk about scent for a minute. It always amazes me how great an all natural product can smell without any fragrance added.

The ingredients include:

  • Hellanthus Annuus
  • Simmondsia
  • Sweet Almond oil
  • Calendula officinatis flower extract
  • Sesame seed oil
  • Aleutees
  • Kukul seed oil
  • Squalene

If you’re reading these ingredients and you’re thinking “I have no idea what half of these things are” don’t worry you’re not alone, neither do I.

I’ll probably end up Googling it out of curiosity after publishing this post.

For the most part what you need to know is, these are all natural ingredients and it smells great. I definitely smell the sweet almond coming through, and it almost has that little tingle you get from a citrus blend, but it doesn’t smell like citrus.

Overall I think this is a product you should definitely give a try. It’s a steal of a deal at $30. If you have a thicker beard I would still give it a try. Use it under your existing shaving soap, you’ll likely notice a huge difference in reduced irritation after shaving, coupled with a smooth gliding blade.

As for my rating. I would give it a 2.5/4 for scent, 3/3 for price, and 2.5/3 for quality for an overall respectable 8/10 rating.

You can purchase this shave oil on the Prairie Boy website.
